In what could result in further strengthening of relationship between Japan & India, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan has notified that India and Japan intend to start bilateral Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program in the first quarter of fiscal year 2019.
Initially, PPH Program will start on pilot basis in certain fields of inventions. Under the system, companies can request expedited examination through simplified procedures, based on their applications whose claims have been determined to be patentable in home country.
This will be first ever such implementation in India. However, India is yet to officially announce such development to initiate PPH.
