Adding to recent innovative steps by office of Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM) for clearing backlog, CGPDTM in collaboration with Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA) has undertaken to initiate a project to liquidate pendency of Opposition/Rectification matters at Trade Mark Registry, Delhi through Mediation /Conciliation based on Mediation/Conciliation Rules framed under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
Initially, it was decided to undertake the project on pilot basis by taking up 500 pending Opposition/Rectification matters as per notified list. Now the office has decided to invite consent from concerned parties in all the Opposition/Rectification proceeding pending in the Trademark Registry and final hearing has not been concluded.
The step should assist in clearing current pendency where some oppositions have lasted for nearly a decade at the Delhi Trademark Office for various reasons.
